How to Setup a Portfolio

The Proto theme comes with a portfolio option with several template layouts:

  • 1 Column with image and intro content
  • 2 Columns  with images only
  • 2 Columns with images and intro content
  • 3 Columns with images only
  • 3 Columns with images and intro content
  • 4 Columns with images only
  • 4 Columns with images and intro content

Although you have the choice of the above layouts, normally you will choose what one you want. Images that get displayed will also auto resize and be cropped for the layout you choose because each one requires different image dimensions.

Part 1 - Setup a Category

  1. Navigate to Dashboard >> Posts >> Categories
  2. Create a new category - call it what you want, write a description
  3. Click "Add New Category"

Part 2 - Setup a Page for Layout

  1. Navigate to Dashboard >> Pages
  2. Create a new page and name it what you want
  3. In the "Page Attributes", select the layout that you want
    portfolio-templates
  4. If your "Custom Fields" are not shown below the editor, click on the "Screen Options" tab at the top of the admin page and put a checkmark next to "Custom Fields"
  5. In the "Custom Fields" name, type in "pfcategory" and then in the "Value" field, type in the "Category" you just made
  6. In the "Custom Page title and Description" fields, fill these out so that you get a nice title in the upper right corner of your page:

  7. Click "Publish" or if you are changing an existing template, click "Update"

Part 3 - Adding Portfolio Content

  1. Navigate to Dashboard >> Posts
  2. Create a new Post and title it like you would for any post
  3. Using the content editor, write your content like you would for a regular post
  4. Select the Category or categories that you want this to show up in
  5. If you want to display a custom title and description in the upper right area of your page header, fill in the "Custom Post title and Description" fields
  6. Click "Publish" or "Update"

Your Portfolio View

For example, if you created a portfolio that has 2 columns with images and intros, plus you created a menu link to that portfolio page, you can view it on the front-end. It should look something like this:
